Volunteer Florida The Governor's Commission on Volunteerism & Community Service Tallahassee, Florida Volunteer Florida is the service mark of the Governor's Commission on Volunteerism & Community Service. Its mission is to strengthen communities in Florida through volunteer and national service. One of its responsibilities is to administer AmeriCorps programs at the state level. AmeriCorps is the national service movement that engages Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service. AmeriCorps programs address critical needs in education, public safety, environmental, or other human needs in the communities being served. As an AmeriCorps Program Manager, I monitored and provided technical assistance, training and guidance to local AmeriCorps programs statewide. National High Magnetic Field Laboratory Center for Integrating Research & Learning Tallahassee, Florida The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) is one of nine laboratories of its kind in the world and the only one in the Western Hemisphere. The NHMFL is a unique federal-state partnership supported by the National Science Foundation and the State of Florida. It is jointly operated by Florida State University, the University of Florida, and Los Alamos National Laboratory. It has become a world leader in magnet-related research and technology. Through its Center for Integrating Research and Learning, the NHMFL supports educational programming at all levels from K-12 to postdoctoral. The educational programs are designed to excite and educate students, teachers, and the general public about science and technology. I was involved in the development and implementation of multimedia and multidisciplinary science and teacher education programs.RESPECT of Florida Tallahassee, Florida RESPECT of Florida is the central nonprofit agency of the State of Florida Commission for Purchase from the Blind or Other Severely Handicapped. As Director, I was responsible for the overall administration of the program which provides training and employment opportunities for Florida citizens with disabilities. SER-Jobs for Progress of Florida, Inc. Miami, Florida SER-Jobs for Progress of Florida is a community-based organization providing employment and training services to economically disadvantaged and minority communities. I was responsible for program development and management; curriculum development and teaching; grants and funding development; monitoring and assessment of projects; and supervision of instructional staff. Miccosukee Indian School Miccosukee Tribe of Florida The Miccosukee Indian School is an ungraded school operated by the Miccosukee Tribe of Florida. My responsibilities were to teach students at the upper elementary school level and assist in the development of an innovative bilingual/bicultural curriculum. I participated in the successful initial SACS accreditation process. I also coordinated summer youth programs. Teacher Coral Shores High School is a Monroe County public school. My responsibilities included curriculum development, and teaching in the special education program for the Upper Florida Keys area. The program involved setting up work/study experiences for students. This required working closely in the community with employers and state agencies. The work/study program used feedback from employers to determine curriculum emphasis.
